The Iowa Space Grant Consortium (ISGC) will award scholarships to support outstanding undergraduate students pursuing a degree in preservice education for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields in support of NASA’s mission.

Awards:

Scholarships of $5,000 for the 2019-2020 academic year will be awarded based on merit for students at Iowa Space Grant core institutions (Drake Univ., Iowa State, Iowa, or Northern Iowa) or academic affiliates (Loras College or Des Moines Area Community College). Awards of $2,500 per semester with proof of enrollment and minimum GPA met with transcript verification, for Spring 2020 allotment.

Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Full-time enrollment at Drake, ISU, UI, UNI, Loras, or DMACC as of August 2019
  • Graduation date no earlier than May 2020
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (out of 4.0)
  • Majoring in preservice education STEM disciplines

Award winners will be chosen based on student qualifications, application, and letter of recommendation. Women, underrepresented minorities, persons with disabilities, and U.S. military veterans are encouraged to apply.

Selection:

Scholarship/s will be awarded to students who have the highest academic merit, and have submitted a transcript and recommendation letter. The awardee will need to provide an unofficial transcript upon graduation and agree to participate in a NASA longitudinal tracking process that surveys student progress and eventual employment outcome to help assess the effectiveness of our program and STEM retention efforts.

Application:

Complete the online scholarship application at: https://form.jotform.com/90916511628964. Be prepared to submit an unofficial transcript (unprotected and unsecured) and at least one recommendation letter (a second letter is optional). These items are required for a complete application.

Recommendation Letter/s:

Submission of at least one recommendation letter from a mentor is required. A second letter would also be accepted, but is not required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all materials are submitted by the deadline. For the recommendation letter/s, forward your request to your mentor by e-mail with the following URL for an online submission: https://form.jotform.com/90916342116958.

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2019 by 12:00 a.m. Awards should be announced by July 31, 2019, contingent upon availability of NASA funding.
