Development of Remote Sensing Protocols for Inventory of Nutrient Management Practices
The objective of this project is to develop standard remote sensing protocols for the inventory of cover crops and residue cover. This will be
accomplished by remote detection of cover crops using Landsat-7 and 8 satellite sensor data as well as other high resolution/high repeat datasets obtained from local natural resource professionals in the Iowa Water Quality Initiative HUC12 watersheds. The expected outcome of this project will include: 1) remote sensing best protocols for the inventory of cover crops and residue cover; 2) an estimate of the areal extent of cover crops established within the HUC-12 target watersheds; and, 3) estimates of residue cover at the field scale within the HUC-12 target watersheds.
