Glenn Research Center
August 30, 2021-December 17, 2021
Goals of your project/s:
– Create a machine learning model to predict performance
– Apply statistical analysis techniques to validate performance data values
– Determine the cause of inconsistencies between multiple testing facilities.
Describe what you did during the internship:
I developed linear regression models to create a data-driven modeling capability for the 12.5 kW Hall Effect Rocket with Magnetic Shielding (HERMeS) thruster Technology Demonstration Units (TDUs) at NASA Glenn Research Center. The facility effects—particularly facility pressure—were analyzed to identify where there is dependence on thruster performance. Prior to the creation of these models, the data used for analysis was cleaned through various techniques.
Did you achieve your goals? What were the results and conclusions?
Yes, I achieved my goals. The generated linear regression models showed how three of the output variables are determined. The other output variables analyzed were not able to be modeled using linear regression.
Describe positive lessons learned from this experience:
I learned a great deal about data science and how to apply the knowledge I learn in school.
Describe negative lessons learned from this experience:
I have no bad lessons learned. Everything about the internship was fantastic!
