A new immersive workforce development program to spur interest in space and aerospace-related subjects for 4-12 students.
Mission Moon offers youth the opportunity to interact with a variety of STEM role models while participating in STEM- and space-themed experiences. The program features many hands-on, interactive challenges tied to NASA’s Artemis program, immersing students in realistic activities that reflect space and aerospace knowledge. There are two tracks to Mission Moon: Mission Moon On-Site Program and Mission Moon Traveling Program.
Mission Moon is presented in partnership with Iowa 4-H Youth Development, a key development partner.

What is the NASA Artemis program?
The NASA Artemis will return humans to the Moon for the first time since the Apollo program. Through Artemis, NASA will explore more of the Moon for scientific discovery and to prepare for the next big step- sending the first crewed missions to Mars!
Students today will grow up in the “Artemis Generation,” where space exploration becomes a regular part of human life.
The Artemis program includes a sequence of missions:
- Artemis I – uncrewed lunar test flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) and the Orion spacecraft around the moon (completed 2022).
- Artemis II – first crewed flight of the SLS and Orion spacecraft around the moon. The Artemis II launch is targeted to happen in March 2026.
- Artemis III – first crewed lunar landing since Apollo, targeting the lunar South Pole (planned for 2027–2028).
